There were only four non-floats, down on last year’s number, but the quality was top notch according to judges.
The winning non-craft mocking Bermuda’s bus service was built by Non-Mariners’ Race stalwarts the Non-Mariners Rugby Football Club and paid tribute to Aaron Christopher Edness, a team player who passed away on Sunday.
Mr Edness was a Regiment corporal and bouncer at Bermuda Bistro @ the Beach. The half life-sized pink and blue cardboard bus was emblazoned with the words “Edness Gone But Not Forgotten”.
Second to cross the line was VIP Reserve Seating, an entry put together by a group of friends poking fun at ministers who might have expected extra special service this year. Those sitting in the VIP seats were faithfully fanned by their minions with palm fronds.
Second from last was the United Swan party, a pretty entry adorned with two cutout swans which duly sank before the finish line.
The Art Centre at Dockyard caught the attention of the crowd with its creation SS Stinky Fish — last to finish. It was a huge fish made of plastic trash and had a giant clothes peg holding its nose from the stink.
With the help of Keep Bermuda Beautiful the entry aimed to open people’s eyes to the problem of dropping trash in Bermuda.
