Logie: Our talent pool is just too small
But coach Gus Logie doesn't see many of those qualities on display when he looks outside of his squad.
Logie, currently preparing his side for tomorrow's one-day-international in Canada and the ICC America's tournament, said the talent pool on the island was very small.
And he added that things were made more difficult by the attitude of complacency among some of the island's cricketers.
"I've said since I got here that I have an open door policy. How many people have broken down that door?
"You guys know what's happening. We've invited players to show up and they don't turn up for training.
"Some players don't even show up for the club sides. We are doing the best we can with what we have."
He added that things would have to change if Bermuda was to be part of the International Cricket Council's long-term vision of having 16 teams playing at Test level.
Malcolm Speed, currently visiting Bermuda, spoke yesterday of the desire to expand the pool of Test playing nations.
But coach Logie believes there will need to be a huge change in attitude across the board for that dream to ever become a reality.
"I think it's an incentive for everyone. It's not just this team - it's about the whole country. If the country wants to be involved in Test cricket, sacrifices have to be made.
"Everything has to improve. Its not all about these 16 players - they may not be playing in a few years time. Where are we going to get the next team from? We're not going to import them.
"I don't think many of the players from the Canada team are actually from Canada - they are expats who have made Canada their home.
"Bermuda seem to have the only home grown talent around.
"We are always going to be in a situation where we are looking at home grown talent, which is a good thing but it is a limited pool.
"Is it realistic to look at what we have and say we can be playing Test cricket in the near future? I don't think so, not at the moment.
"If we started to develop the right attitude and the right approach it may be possible at some stage."
Meanwhile, as cricket fans prepare for another mis-spent weekend clicking the refresh button on Island Stats, Logie was keeping his cards close to his chest about his selection plans.
"A few players have knocks and we'll be sorting things out over the next couple of days," he said.
