Limeys defeat Onions in women's rugby
Melissa Field surprised everyone when she bolted down the sideline on the very first play of the game and opened the scoring for a fired up Onions team.
Both teams settled down and the first third of the game was dominated by tight defence from both sides.
Michelle Berendt, playing in her penultimate game in Bermuda, was instrumental in setting up the Limeys next three scores. A moment of magic from Kate Brown saw the lithe centre weave her way through some stunned defenders to open the account.
Shortly afterwards Julia Mansfield took advantage of a defensive mishap when Melissa Field and Sue Rebello became entangled and sprinted down the line to give the Limeys their second try.
In the second half, mid field general Amy Harvey marshalled her troops and the Onions began to cycle through their allotted tackles. The Onions continued to mount the comeback but inexplicably kept giving possession away with sloppy handling.
The errors cost them when the sensational Berendt pounced on a loose ball and a deft pass released the grateful Brown for her second score and more importantly restored the two try buffer for the Limey's. The Onions never gave up and some nice handling finally set up Harvey to scurry across for a well worked try to tighten the score to 3-2 but unfortunately time ran out on the ladies in pink and the Limeys walked off with a hard fought victory.[[In-content Ad]]
