Bermuda’s Women Rugby teams have organized their own take on the ‘Stoplight’ theme in an event to be held this Saturday
All four of Bermuda’s Women Rugby teams have organized their own take on the ‘Stoplight’ theme in an event to be held this Saturday at Front Street venue The Docksider — and their promotional fliers are promising it will be “waaaay more fun than the Stop Light Party at the Princess”.
In addition to the ‘Stoplight’ theme — where revelers wear colours indicating their availability (Red for involved, Green for single, Yellow for ‘Proceed with caution’) — the event will also involve a version of the popular U.K. television show Blind Date.
Four guys and four girls will participate in the event which will have two rounds (one girl to pick from three guys and vice versa) and will reward winning couples with prizes.
There will also be a ‘Message Board’ on which party-goers will be encouraged to take a note of the number given to them by the organizers, write a message and post it beside their number on the board.
One of the event’s organizer’s, Jennifer Baird, said that it was a coincidence that their event — which is being sponsored by Bacardi — comes so soon after Volcanic’s party.
“I personally had never even heard of a Traffic Light Party before — I’m Canadian,” said Ms Baird, “but apparently they are really big in Europe, particularly among the university crowd. We have a number of girls from the U.K. and other countries in the league, and the suggestion for the theme came from one of them.”
“Ours is going to be way better (than the Volcanic one) because we will have an awesome DJ — Ben Outerbridge — Bacardi give-aways, fun decorations, games and prizes.”
She said that while large amounts of people at the Volcanic Party spurned the concept of a ‘Stoplight’ party by not wearing a relevant colour, this issue would be addressed:
“ Everyone will get a red or yellow or green sticker coming in the door, [but] wearing colour-coded shirts is optional.”
Ms Baird added that the clubs are so enthused with the concept that they are already planning to make the party an annual event.
The event, which will raise money for each of the women rugby teams (Police, Mariners, Renegades and Teachers), comes at the end of the first season of Bermuda’s womens touch rugby league.
The event will run from 8pm until 3am. Tickets are $20 either from Docksiders, or from e-mailing [email protected]. The league is also encouraging women interested in playing rugby to contact them at the same address. Interested parties can also check out the Bermuda 7’s Tournament on April 15 at the National Sports Centre.[[In-content Ad]]
