He returns to the Bermuda stage after two years with his wacky mix of music, comedy and visual impressions of numerous rock and pop stars from over the years.
While he admits he might not be able to match the extreme wardrobe of the American singer-songwriter, he will be bursting with as much energy.
“I’m really hoping to attract some new people to the show because obviously there’s a high turnover in Bermuda. Lady Gaga is something new I am working on now.
“It’s always difficult to bring a lot of costumes when I’m flying but I’m going to do my best — there will definitely be a lot of high energy.”
Keys is no stranger to the Bermuda stage having performed and lived here for 13 years. He left the island in 2000 to move to the US and has since toured the country and internationally. He promises to perform some of the classic acts he has performed over the years.
Keys admitted his upcoming Gaga impression will not be the first time he has dressed as a woman — he once did Dolly Parton.
“I did it in Bermuda once but I think the manager at the time said that part of the act was a ‘no no’. I used to have a pump that made my boobs bigger and bigger when I sang — I thought it was hilarious but I think people were a bit more conservative back in those days.”
Keys has plenty of new material to keep his act fresh — he will be focusing on classic rock acts of the 70s, 80s and 90s including U2, The Who and Journey. He also plans to do a rock medley including songs from Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. Thrown into the mix will be some comedy and songs from Broadway shows including The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
The popular performer returns to Bermuda on May 6 and May 7. Tony B and Tony Cox will open the show for him.
The event is a fundraiser for the Bermuda Hockey Federation. It is to be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on May 6 and May 7. The show will start at 8pm.
