Jesus showed by example that society's wrongs should be challenged
There is something about reading and writing about people who did things worthy of being called heroes. Today, I am so proud to speak about, not only a hero, but also The Saviour. I am talking about the ultimate hero, Jesus Christ. He is more than a hero; Jesus is a life-changing Saviour. Just ask the woman He called a dog. The woman never argued about what Jesus called her. For it was common terminology to call Gentiles, kuhariois, which means house pets that sat under the Jews' tables while they ate, and therefore ate the leftover crumbs which fell off the tables and onto the floors.
Understand this, Jesus will meet you where you are, and then take you to where He would have you to go. Jesus took this woman from dog-status to diva-status and divine-status, as she was outstanding to Him because of her great faith. Jesus moved her from her current place of negativity and lifted her to a better place. Jesus called her 'woman' at the end of this scriptural message! Remember, Jesus always knew what He would do. It is up to us to seek the lesson in the reading of God's Holy Word.
Jesus let us know that we should never look at another person and judge them based on where we see them currently, because He can speak into their lives and their lives would be transformed in a matter of minutes. At the end of the story, this woman was lifted in her spirit and her emotions and she and her daughter were healed. This woman was made whole. Jesus showed us that He comes for us wherever we may be and He takes us to a better place.
What about when Jesus went into the temple and found that certain persons entrusted with carrying out a process of trust were stealing from the people. Jesus made a scourge and whipped those people. I don't know about you, but I have been strapped once in my life and it was a life-changing moment. I never did another thing worthy of such consequences and correction. I learned my lesson and have been a better person since that day. Hmmmm. Could it be that the reason so many of our youth (males and females) are in dire straits and have no care for the adult population or authority, is because no scourges have ever crossed their backsides? Listen, I may have thought that my parents had lost their minds that day, but what actually happened was that from that day on, I made sure to operate in my own right mind.
At the end of the day, Jesus used the strap, there was proper order restored to the house of God, and people were able to go in and worship God without having to bargain or pay excessive amounts of money to enter into the Temple. Isn't it wonderful, that Jesus showed us that we could indeed speak against the wrongs of society and cause things to be aligned correctly? What a lesson for us today.
Speaking of today, we must look at text through the responsible lens of proper context. For those things, which were done then were acceptable in that society. In other words, if Jesus walked on the earth today, things would be done in a manner which would be effective for our day.
Perhaps Jesus would have surrounded Himself with the best QC lawyers of the day. Perhaps Jesus would have had a politician or two in His posse. Perhaps Jesus would have walked across White Hill Crew or Back-a-Town Crew and gathered Himself a bunch of gangsters, and then used these men and women; transforming their lives and consequently changing our Bermuda and the world.
People of Bermuda; let us be very careful as we look at the manner in which our Saviour (more than a hero) Jesus moved and brought about change. It was all about squashing acceptable wrongs and bringing to light the better way - His way. Be careful of anyone who comes as an angel of light and attempts to tarnish the means and methods of Jesus. From such you must turn away. If it sounds anti-Christ, if it sounds strangely anti-Bible truth, do not heed to the message found therein. Rather, continue to allow Jesus to move you from where you are to a better place - where He would have you to be.
