It's official: Bermuda to host PGA Grand Slam
The 36-hole PGA Grand Slam of Golf will be contested on October 16-17, 2007, and will be televised by TNT (CablevIsion 50 in Bermuda).
The last Grand Slam was won by Tiger Woods for a record seventh time and was held at the Poipu Bay Golf Course and Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Hawaii.
The Mid-Ocean Club features Bermuda's most tricky course. The 6,520-yard, par-70 layout that was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald in 1921, and modified in the 1950s by the late Robert Trent Jones Sr.
"The PGA Grand Slam of Golf marks a new chapter in its history by visiting the beautiful island of Bermuda, which is no stranger to hosting the finest players in the game," said PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb said in a press release. "What remains constant is that this event features the game's stiffest entry requirement and is a treat for fans and players. We look forward with great excitement to presenting the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda."
"One of our top priorities has been to attract a televised golf event that will deliver the best players in the world to showcase Bermuda as a world-class golf destination," said Bermuda Director of Tourism Cherie Lynn Whittier. "It fits our objectives perfectly."
This year, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf featured a $1.25 million purse, with the winner receiving $500,000; second place $300,000; third place $250,000; and fourth place $200,000.[[In-content Ad]]
