The big pace man has torn his knee ligaments and was hobbling around on crutches on Monday as Bermuda - with only one recognized fast bowler in their attack - crashed to a seven wicket defeat against Kenya on Monday.
Team physio Craig Brown confirmed yesterday that O'Brien was out for 6-12 weeks and will need an operation on his injured knee.
The injury has already exposed the lack of depth in Bermuda's seam bowling attack. The selectors opted to field three spinners on Monday meaning part time medium pacer Janeiro Tucker had to open the bowling with Jacobi Robinson.
A change of tactics is expected today with Stefan Kelly, who was dropped after two uncharacteristically wayward performances against UAE and Afghanistan, likely to be recalled.
Glenn Blakeney, who has bruising on both thumbs after putting down two tough catching chances in successive games, did not bat in practice yesterday but is expected to be fit for today.
With Chris Douglas already home after injuring his thumb in the field, Gus Logie was left to lament a mounting injury crisis ahead of the 'do or die' clash with Holland today.
"It's been one of those tours where injuries have been a factor from the word go.
"But that's the situation and hopefully the bowlers we do have can really fire on the day.
"We have beaten Holland before and we can do it again. We have to win and hope UAE do us a favour.
"We've just got to do our part. We put ourselves in this position because we didn't start well. We've no-one to blame but ourselves."[[In-content Ad]]
