Bouncing Back — Thriving in Changing Times is a series of stories and essays about surviving adversity and becoming stronger.
The book, published by Wake Up Print of California, tells of life and death struggles and picking oneself back up in the most difficult of circumstances.
Among its stories is a tale of surviving triple malaria and typhoid fever, by Bermudian Larry Trott.
Mr Trott contracted the diseases during a trip to the villages of Ghana, West Africa, in 1999 with the Bermuda African Dance Company.
In Facing Your Greatest Fear Can Be Your Greatest Gift he tells of his struggle back to health, and through it, a greater understanding of life.
“I have come to understand from my experience that disease is a spiritual journey.
“It is a journey that can liberate us from our greatest fears.
“It is a path that can lead us to our greatest callings and greater purpose in life,” he writes.
Fellow contributors to the book include Brian Tracy, David Riklan, John Assaraf, Dr Wayne W Dyer and Leon McKinney.
Mr Trott was asked to contribute by publicist Arielle Ford — Deepak Chopra’s publicist — whom he met at a conference in Puerto Rico.
“It was a great honour, and last year the book went to number one on the Barnes & Noble Bestseller List,” said Dr Trott.
He says that during these tough economic times, “people need messages of hope”.
“Everything is possible. You need to have faith. We need to have people around us who can mentor us and support us,” he said.
Mr Trott and his wife Mrs Karen Simmons recently opened Sankofa — The Wellness Centre, in Chancery Lane, Hamilton.
Rebranding
The holistic healing centre marks a rebranding and relaunch of their business, previously the Centre of Integrated Healing Arts, founded in 1997.
The focus on the new centre delayed any publicity for his role in Bouncing Back — Thriving in Changing Times, but on Monday Mr Trott held a book signing at Sankofa.
Tomorrow he will also sign copies of his book at Brown & Co. in Hamilton.
Having opened in March, the new holistic centre offers treatment for stress, migraines, back pain, asthma, fatigue, anxiety, digestive conditions, carpal tunnel, sports injuries, relationship stress and more.
Services include acupuncture, magnetic cupping, meditation, empowerment coaching, regression therapy, transformational retreats and psychotherapy.
Mr Trott said: “The reaction has been awesome. But people are looking for alternative and complimentary therapies to western medicine.”
Sankofa — The Wellness Centre is situated at 1 Chancery Lane, Reid Street, Hamilton. Contact 292-2513 or e-mail [email protected] for more information.
