FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19: West Indies cricket sensation Brian Lara is returning to Bermuda for the 30th PGA Grand Slam of Golf and will play in the event’s Pro-Am on Monday, the PGA of America has announced.
Lara was a fans' favourite when he played in the 2010 Grand Slam Pro-Am at Port Royal as a guest of then-Premier Dr Ewart Brown.
This year he will return as a guest of his long-time friend, Hall of Fame golfer Ernie Els, winner of the 2012 Claret Jug.

“Brian Lara’s return to Port Royal and the Grand Slam is fantastic news,” said Andy Burrows, Chairman of the Grand Slam Committee.
“Brian was so great with the fans two years ago and spectators were excited to see him play golf almost as well as he plays cricket. Anyone who missed the excitement two years ago gets a second chance now.”

Pro-Am spectators were delighted in 2010 when Lara, Els and Brown famously played a quick game of cricket on the 16th tee at Port Royal. Els went on to win the 28th PGA Grand Slam of Golf title and that day Bermuda also presented Lara with an honorary lifetime membership to Port Royal Golf Course.
Popular TV personality Robin Meade of HLN’s Morning Express will also play in the Grand Slam Pro-Am. Ms Meade is new to the game of golf and her enthusiasm for it is said to be infectious.
Meantime, lifetime golfer and Golf Channel personality Gary Williams is bringing his clubs to Bermuda to play in the 2012 Grand Slam Pro-Am as well.
The Pro-Am gives fans an opportunity to see the year’s best golfers in a relaxed setting playing alongside local and international celebrities – including golf legends like Ian Baker-Finch. Spectators are permitted to request autographs, take pictures, and in some cases, chat with participants.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf will feature 2012 major champions Bubba Watson (Masters), Webb Simpson (US Open), Ernie Els (Open Championship) and 2011 Grand Slam defending champion Keegan Bradley. All four professionals are scheduled to participate in the Pro-Am.
Tickets are still available for the Pro-Am on October 22, as well as the two days of competition on October 23 and 24. Tickets can be purchased at the Port Royal Golf Course or online at pga.com. Individual day tickets are $20 and week-long passes sell for $50. Fans who buy tickets in advance get two for the price of one.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features the most difficult qualification requirement in the game – a major championship. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000, second place $300,000 third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
