Hear what God is saying and not the voices of today

FRIDAY, NOV. 23: “He that hath an ear let him hear…” That phrase, spoken to the church, is recorded seven times in the Book of Revelation.

Yes, each time, the church, the ecclesia, or the called out ones are asked to hear.

The reason there is teaching and teaching in preaching is so that the church of today can hear what God is saying and gain an intimate understanding of what God desires for you and from you.

The fact is that the sense of hearing is a form of accountability to the church member.

Now be careful, there is a difference between the churchgoer and the church member. If you are a church member, it is expected that, as a member of the body of Jesus Christ, you will operate in total alignment with the heart, mind, and mandate of God.

To have members of one body, going in different directions, is akin to having two left feet attempting to move independently of each other. It simply will not work.

The church of this latter day is told to ‘hear’. Why should the church be asked to ‘hear’? Why should the very members of the body of Christ be asked to hear?

Well, this is a very significant question. As a matter of fact, it is a vital question for today. The church of today has so many voices to listen to; they seek to take counsels from so many who do not have the counsel of God backing what they do.

A mistake

The church of today will often listen to the leaders of today and esteem their words and promises higher than the words and promises of God’s Holy Word. That is an error.

It is not up to the world, or those outside of the church membership, to ‘hear’ God speak and listen to God attentively.

No, they will yield to the voices of the day. The Christian has the responsibility and duty to ‘hear’ what God is saying.

If you do not hear God speak and receive it into your very spirit, you will easily be torn away from the very Word you say you live by, because of mankind’s reasoning.

In essence, you ‘hear’ by the spirit of a man or the spirit of a woman.

2 Kings 13:17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’S deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

In this text, we are given an account that should challenge us today. King Joash heard what the prophet said, but he did not have an ear to ‘hear’ what the prophet was saying.

Special ear

You see, depending on your ability to hear with a ‘special ear’, you will either experience current victories only for yourself, or you will experience continuous victories for your children and your grandchildren.

Joash ensured his own victories because he had an ear out for his own needs. He struck the ground three times, which took care of the battles that he would have to fight against Syria.

However, Joash missed a moment to invest in the future of his own seed and their seed. Joash was so focused on his current mess that he missed the greater message of the moment.

As a parent, Joash should have had a concern for the challenges that his own children would face.

The truth is that battles that were fought decades and even centuries ago are still being fought today. They simply have a modern twist.

Old battles

Today, some parents have not conquered the enemy for themselves, and so their children fight the same old battles or the same old causes that they fought. That is a shame.

All right thinking parents ought to destroy the enemy for themselves and their children.

Battles that parents have fought should be won so that those battles do not become the current wars that the children are trying to survive.

Parents, you have an opportunity now and a choice to make now. You must decide whether you desire to give as an inheritance to your descendants the same battles you fought, or whether you will destroy the enemy so that your children can live in freedom; live in peace.

Battles make people bitter while victories make living sweet. Based on the decisions made by parents, the children will achieve a decisive victory or a depressing defeat. Parents, it is up to you!

Blessings abound!
