FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25: The first Hacker’s Cup was a success.
Cambridge Beaches, along with British Airways, sponsored a celebrity golf tournament at Port Royal, home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
The concept was to invite showbiz celebrities from the UK and to then match them with leading UK journalists. Among those who played were:
- Sir Steve Redgrave, Olympic gold medalist from England
- Peter Corrigan, golf columnist, Independent on Sunday
- Gary McAllister, Scottish footballer
- Nick Perry, chairman Ultratravel Limited
- Clive Agran, contributing journalist, Golf Monthly, Today’s Golfers, Going for Golf, and Golf news
- Keevil Burgess, DJ for Mix 106
- Phillipa Kenedy, freelance journalist and broadcaster
- Michael Lynagh, Australian rugby union footballer
- Glenn Jones, general manager of Bermuda.com
- Rhodri Williams, Welsh sports journalist and former anchor for Sky Sports
- Josh Ball, sports journalist for The Royal Gazette
- Charlotte Jackson, lead presenter Sky Sports
- Minty Clinch, journalist and film reviewer
- Gethin Jones, Welsh television presenter, BBC’s Blue Peter
- Dougie Keen, reporter and producer Sky Sports and former professional footballer
- Keith Chuter, British Airways sales manager, online and direct.
Michael Winfield, in a press release said, Cambridge Beaches was “hoping to create a fun event that will generate significant publicity for Bermuda, that will help erode our somewhat stuffy reputation and which will attract attention throughout this important market.
“We are very pleased that BA have recognized the significance of this event.”
The Hackers Cup took place this week from November 20 to 24.
