Greg Maybury will be joining Stefan Kelly at the Oakham School in the U.K.

The talented 14-year-old bowler was a part of the Bermuda team that competed in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.At only 14 years of age, Greg Maybury is an outstanding young opening bowler with the ability to swing the ball either way. Greg plays senior cricket for Somerset CC and opens the bowling in their senior side.

The teenager will start his studies abroad in April, 2008.

Oakham School has an outstanding cricket programme with a first class indoor facility.

Maybury will fall under the tutelage of former England cricketers Frank Hayes and David Steele.

A press release by the Bermuda Cricket Board said: "It is the BCB's aim to support young cricketers to obtain good GCSE and A level results which will significantly improve their ability to garner a place at one of the U.K.'s six University Centers of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE).

"Students attending UCCE receive Level 3 coaching year round, access to indoor nets, numerous first class fixtures and healthy competition as well as quality teaching leading to their undergraduate degree."

Maybury may not have had the opportunity to go to England to further his skills had not the Bank of Bermuda Foundation stepped in.

The BCB said this is the second time the Foundation has supported one of Bermuda's promising young cricketers. With the support of the Foundation, Kelly has attended Oakham since 2003 and is planning to attend one of the UCCE in September 2008.

Director and secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, David Lang said: "This scholarship will not only help one of Bermuda's talented youth cricket players develop his skills and sportsmanship but will provide him with a solid educational foundation on which to build his future career."

Reginald Pearman said: "Greg continues to shine both on and off the field. His sporting accolades speak for themselves, however, off the field, he is a confident and conscientious young man.

"Academically, Greg finished second in his class at Warwick Academy and has proven that he is a committed and promising student.  I am confident Greg will make the most of this opportunity and I wish him all the best for the upcoming term."[[In-content Ad]]
