THURSDAY, AUGUST 18: If you are looking for gospel entertainment, a DJ promises uplifting, worshipful music for any occasion.
Lynwood Richardson, also known as Brotha Richie, is the co-owner of mobile gospel DJ service, Trinity Sound.
He plays at weddings, birthday parties, fairs and other events, and hopes to expand the company.
“I started Trinity Sound in 1997 for the purpose of reaching out to youth and young adults with gospel music that you can jam to,” said Mr Richardson.
Demand
“I would host gospel parties at different venues throughout Bermuda where folk could come, dance and have fellowship in a clean, safe, drug-free environment.
“I then started to get requests to do sound for outreaches and wedding receptions, so Trinity Sound eventually developed into Bermuda's first mobile gospel DJ sound system.”
Mr Richardson said the business was going well until he had some “personal issues” and turned away from God.
“Finally after many trials and tribulations, I re-dedicated my life to the Lord on Easter Sunday 2010.
“After that I answered the call and promised to use my DJ abilities to glorify God.
“The amazing thing is that as soon as people found out that I was back on the gospel scene, requests started to come in for my services.
“A month later I was offered a job back on Hott 1075 with my own gospel show called The Soul Food Mix on Sundays from 2-5pm, featuring the hottest in contemporary gospel music.”
Mr Richardson can play all genres of gospel and can also provide old school gospel as well. Fellow DJ in Trinity Sound is Kevin McCottry, DJ Postman.
Mr Richardson said he has seen demand for specialist gospel DJs grow since 1997.
“Now folk are becoming hip to the fact that there is gospel music out there that you can party and have a good time too.
“My goal is to make Trinity Sound Bermuda's number one mobile gospel DJ sound system and my method is to make whatever event we are hired to do a memorable one.”
He thanked Carla Martin and Shauntia Steede at HSBC Bank Bermuda for helping him get a loan to buy new equipment.
