Gorilla doctor will educate tomorrow's environmentalists
TUESDAY, JUNE 21: Presentations aimed at educating Bermudians about conservation of Africa’s mountain gorillas will be held next week.
A press statement said the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP) is an acclaimed initiative dedicated to saving the lives of critically endangered mountain gorillas.
An international team of veterinarians called gorilla doctors work for a non-profit organisation to provide direct, hands-on care in Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Lynda Johnson, development officer for the project, said: “We are thrilled to be able to be hosting presentations for the first time in Bermuda about this wonderful project.
“Our mission is to educate tomorrow’s environmentalists—and we hope young people, in particular, will come out to learn about these endangered animals and what this group is doing to help the world’s gorillas.”
The first presentation will be held on June 27 at 10:30am at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.
On June 28 and 29, presentations will be held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute starting at 7pm.
Those events will include a half-hour performance by African musician Samite.
Tickets for the evening events are $20 and are available on www.bdatix.bm.
