Golf tournament to benefit CedarBridge students
The 'Passports to College Golf Tournament' is raising money for 'Passports to College of Bermuda,' which assists college-bound students by providing SAT preparation classes, writing workshops, assistance with college admission applications and college tours.
"This is our second year holding the tournament at Belmont Hills," said Director of Programs for Passports to College Robin O'Neil. "But this is our first year to work with Alex Madeiros of 'To A Tee Bermuda' to increase our exposure."
Open
The tournament is open to anyone interested and organizers hope to have a total of 75 teams.
Participants will play 18 holes, receive clubs (if they do not have their own), snacks, a light dinner, and goodie bags.
The Captains Choice format means prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, and a hole in one.
Spectators are also welcome free of charge.
Passports to College was launched in Bermuda in July 2007.
"Our goal is to lead, develop, and advocate for students while we help create opportunities for exposure and enrichment," Mr. O'Neil said.
"We have adopted CedarBridge high school and in November we took 28 students on a Southeast U.S. college tour. More than 100 students have participated in various workshops held between Bright Temple AME church and the Ernst and Young training room. A partnership with YouthNet allows us to network and provide services for student mentors."
The cost of entry for the golf tournament is $250.
It will be held on Sunday April 28 at 12:30pm at the Belmont Hills Golf Club.
