God is with us the whole year, not just on the 25th
Let me be clear in communicating that because of the birth of Jesus Christ, Christians believe in miracles.
The miracle of the birth of Jesus also lets you know that God is with you.
That is so very important, especially considering the challenges being faced here in Bermuda. You can be comforted by the fact that God is with you through the presence of His Son, Jesus Christ, and this means that whatever you stand in need of, God is still able to meet that need.
At the time of Christ's birth, the world was in a dark condition. It was a time when the world needed hope; the world needed a light. It was then that God decided to gift the world with a son, His Son, who would change things for the better.
It is important to note here that Jesus entered into the world legally. That is, Jesus was born through the womb or birth canal of a woman. Hence, even at the very beginning of His journey, Jesus understood that it would always be through a pushing and pressing through, that He would find destiny.
Just like any normal birth, Jesus would experience contractions. Jesus would experience how contractions caused His head to feel pressure and that pressure actually propelled him further along the birth canal.
Bermuda, that is a life lesson. Whatever you are going to birth in life will only be birthed through contractions of contradiction and controversy.
The key to success is to use the pain. Yes, you cannot allow the pain to plummet you into hopelessness and despair.
No! The pain must promote positive movement forward and through it! As I think on the heroes of the Bible and even those persons we call heroes, we must confess that they have all come through something. They have come through and gained the right to speak encouragement to others.
It is also important to note that Jesus had to be born of a woman, because that meant He was legally a human being, having been birthed through the womb. That lets me know that Jesus respected the system of the day. Jesus was not going to just appear on the earth as an adult. He respected the order that God had set in place. That is, after the creation of Adam and Eve, the earth would be populated via conception, growth, and then expulsion from the womb. Can you imagine the very first time Mary gazed into the eyes of her baby? She was looking at a prophecy come true. She was the virgin and there was the child.
What is further wonderful is that because Jesus, Emmanuel, was born and because His name means "God with us", you can take comfort that Emmanuel is yet with you. As Christians, you must recognize that no matter where you are and no matter what you may go through, God's Son is still with you.
"God with us." That statement is a present statement. It is a now statement. Emmanuel does not mean "God was with us" or "God shall be with us". No, Emmanuel means "God with us". You can be reassured that Jesus is your ever-present help and your always present companion.
So, as you prepare to celebrate Christmas Day 2009, please know that there are 364 other days when Emmanuel, God is with us. Respice finem.
