FRIDAY, SEP. 28: Want to get fit and help a charity at the same time?
Next month the Court House health club is hosting a 12-hour Spinathon to raise money for Red Cross and to get more people on the move.
The charity spinning session takes place on October 6 in the courtyard of Victoria Place outside of Court House gym, Hamilton and runs from 8am to 8pm.
Participants can jump on a spinning bike for an hour at a time and participate any number of times throughout the day. The instructors will swap over every hour and will play a selection of high energy music.
The aim is to raise $5,000 or more over the course of the day.
Court House manager Sue Pell said: “Spinning is our most successful group exercise by far and we just thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce more people to spinning and raise money for the Red Cross — the charity we have chosen for this event.
On the move
“We want to get more people moving and we welcome any age — friends and family.
“We already have lots of members who have booked up. Most people are taking an hour and some are coming back and doing another hour. Some companies have sponsored a bike with their employees taking turns throughout the day.
We are trying to fill about 90 spots — we have 15 bikes running for the 12 hours so we have filled a lot of spots already.”
Companies can sponsor a bike for the whole event ($300) with employees taking turns. Among those signed up so far are Validus Re, ArielRe, Nephila Capital and Key Tech Ltd.
Members and non-members are booking bikes at $25 per hour (most are taking one hour) and sponsorship forms to help them raise additional money are available at the reception desk at Court House.
John Barritts will be supplying bottled water and both Lindo’s and Victoria Grill have offered to help out by supplying fruit to keep participants going.
Pell said she hopes to make the Spinathon an annual event.
Sponsorship forms are available at the reception desk or contact [email protected] for more information.
