The Bermuda National Gallery has become the first gallery to receive certification by the Bermuda National Standards Committee.

The certificate acknowledges the gallery has satisfied all areas of scrutiny — governance, regulations and policies, financial and human resource management and strategic and performance improvement planning.

Former trustee Michael Spurling was instrumental in the certification process, lending the BNG more than 100 hours of his time.

According the gallery, as a result of this in-depth process, the BNG is a more efficient, transparent organization with Lisa Howie as director.

Mr. Phillips said: “I am immensely grateful for the energy and commitment of our trustees led by Michael Spurling for recognising how important it is for the BNG to be certified to the highest standards by the BNSC.

“And I am equally grateful to Glenn Blakeney, Minister of Youth, Families, Sports and Community Development with responsibility for the Arts, for his endorsement.”
