'Gades and Police draw
The opening stanza saw Renegades rocked by the blue rocket Julia Mansfield who rounded the Renegade winger like a hoop around a barrel and sprinted in from half way to open the scoring.
Renegades did not panic and as Amy Harvey dissected the Police backline and opened up several gaps. Laura Haynes was the recipient of a finely weighted pass and she scampered through for a sure try before inexplicably running through the dead ball area. Haynes was not to be denied though and she opened up the defence again and this time weaved her own way through for the tying score.
Renegades focused on tight passing and eventually their tactics paid off with Sue Rebello scurrying over for the go ahead score. Police were let off shortly afterwards when Haynes, trying to make amends for her earlier faux pas, scorched around the outside, only to be forced into touch inches short of the line by the tenacious back tracking of Mansfield. Police settled down, set their defensive line well and then strung together some good runs eating up the yards.
Some determined midfield play by iron lady Anna Knapman-Scott set up a powerful run by the mighty Kate Brown which saw the lithe centre score the equalizing try.
In the tense closing moments of the game, Mansfield looked to have slipped by Melissa Field only to be physically thrown to the ground by the ferocious Field who refused to let her man past.
'Gades were indeed fortunate though that a penalty try was not awarded and it was a close run thing with a two all draw being a fair result. The tie means that Renegades are at least assured the share of the league title and only need to win one of their last two games to secure their second league title in a row.[[In-content Ad]]
