TUESDAY, OCT. 2: Two friends will be flying to Atlanta later this month to walk 60 miles in support of breast cancer awareness.

Arlene Trott is a 15-year survivor of breast cancer and will be walking with her friend Barbara Trott in the Susan G Komen 3-day walk for breast cancer.

The event will be held from October 19 to 21.

Both ladies will be wearing pink sneakers, Arlene – pink and white, Barbara - pink and black.

The pair has been training since March and has raised almost $6,000.

Arlene said: “Some people are giving us money but mainly it’s been online donations on the website.

“We sent out newsletters to everyone we knew.”

Barbara said: “It’s a privilege to support such a worthy cause.

“Ever since my friend Arlene did the walk several years ago, I have wanted to do it.

“We had talked about it and so we’re going to do it and here we are.”

Barbara and Arlene plan to take their time walking 20 miles a day.

“It’s our own pace, it’s not a race”, Barbara said.

Arlene added: “It’s more the fact that you’re raising the money, the camaraderie, the survivors.

“There are also some people walking who are in treatment.

“It’s very emotional at the end.”

Barbara said: “I’m looking forward to the experience, getting to meet thousands of women for the same cause.

“It’s going to be awesome.”

Arlene said the event is like the May 24th half-marathon, but for three days.

“It’s 20 miles a day.

‘There are stops.

“We walk to a certain point then camp overnight, then start the second day.

“We walk again, then camp and then walk to downtown Atlanta and have a celebration.”

Arlene said there will be men walking for their wives, mothers, sisters, aunts or anyone in their lives who has been affected by breast cancer.

“Just support the cause.

“I’m going to say it again, women take charge of your health.”

Barbara added: “Everyone deserves a life, that’s the slogan.

“Let’s find a cure.”
