The Firebird was an all out hit with the hundreds of children who turned out to see the opening night last night.

Written and directed by Carol Birch and inspired by Russian folklore, the show was as magical as it was hilarious.

Steven Notman was a hit as the buxom dame Katishoo while the evil witch Baba Yaga played by Jenn Osmond, was captivating. The sets and backdrops were outstanding this year thanks to a dedicated team of designers and for the first time there were some impressive pyrotechnics.

While The Firebird is not your typical Christmas Panto it proved to have all the elements — the audience participation, the catchy songs, big bosoms and most of all, the massive laughs. The show continues at City Hall until December 18.
