WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9: Pinkies up!
The Fairmont group has declared Saturday, November 12 an “official” tea day to celebrate its long-held links with the tradition.
Festivities will take place around the world as part of the Get Steeped with Fairmont including Bermuda’s Hamilton and Southampton resorts.
“Afternoon tea in Bermuda is as celebrated as the island’s beautiful pink sand beaches,” said Shelley Meszoly, regional director of sales and marketing for Fairmont Bermuda.
“So we are happy to offer a taste of both on Tea Day and we encourage ladies to wear their hats for this special occasion.”
The New York Times praised the Fairmont Hamilton for having the best afternoon tea in Bermuda and on Saturday, November 12, the hotel will be hosting a special Tea Dance from 2:30pm to 5pm in the Gazebo Room. As well as tea and sweet treats there will be music by the Wayne Davis Trio Band.
The Tea Dance buffet will also offer an assortment of tea sandwiches such as herbed cream cheese and cucumber and curried chicken and fresh mango with crisp arugula on bruschetta.
The Fairmont Southampton will be holding Tea on The Beach on the Ocean Club terrace from 2pm to 4pm as part of its celebration. Guests will be treated to a four-course tea pairing. In addition, guests are encouraged to demonstrate the spirit of afternoon tea by wearing their favourite hats, which will be assessed by a panel of local “celebrity” judges including Sherri Simmons of Magic 102.7’s “The Sherri Simmons Show” and Nikita Robinson of Hott 107.5’s The Ladies Room for a prize.
The cost for either event is $39 for adults and $25 for children ages 5 to 12 plus 17 per cent gratuities. Children under 5 are free.
