WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5:
Fast Five ****
Genre: Action/Crime
Rating: PG-13
Director: Justin Lin
Actors: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson
The fifth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise sees ex-federal agent Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and girlfriend Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) free her brother Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) from a prison bus and become the most wanted fugatives in the USA and fleeing to the barrios of Rio De Janeiro. Facing the dual pressure of having tough as nails federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson) and the Brazilian mafia both after them, the trio must pull one last spectacular heist to gain their freedom. Gathering together an elite team of racers, the action never lets up during the movie’s 130 minutes.
This is exactly the kind of guy movie that fans of the franchise expect and have been looking forward too with fast cars, big biceps, guns and lots a one-liners. While the plot might be completely unbelievable and it will never win an award (except maybe a Razzi) it doesn’t really matter because it’s all about the action and in that respect it’s simply fun to watch. Movies are judged as either art or entertainment, both are worthy objectives and both have their place, I’ll leave the reader to guess what category Fast Five is in.
