Animation/family

The craze for 3D continues with this fun family film from Sony - a charming and comic tale with vibrant animation and a cracking cast.

Saturday Night Live favourite Bill Hader provides the voice of our hero Flint Lockwood, an inventor in the small town Swallow Falls who dreams of helping others.

Sadly, his creations are useless and ridiculed, especially his spray-on shoes and monkey thought translator.

But one day he invents a machine that can turn clouds into food, offering a solution to world hunger.

He is praised as a genius - until excess amounts of food start falling from the sky like a rainstorm and drown his little town.

Cloudy is an amusing parody of the disaster movie genre teamed with a moral message about excess consumption, packaged alongside jokes for viewers of all ages.

Some of the best gags come from weathergirl Sam Sparks (Anna Faris), who serves up quips like "meatier shower" while reporting on the phenomenon.

The geeky Flint is endearingly sweet and likeable for a mad scientist, while there is a nice cameo from James Caan as his dad.

The visual effects are impressive although it does not have the stunning artwork or heart of rival Pixar's latest effort, Up.

But it should still be a big hit with adults and kids alike - and any movie that stars A-Team legend Mr. T and Evil Dead hero Bruce Campbell has to be a winner.
