Dawn helps with clean-up

WEDNESDAY, APR. 25: More than 16,000 visitors will descend on the island in the busiest week of the cruise season so far.

Five different liners will make seven voyages between them to Bermuda before the end of Sunday.

Explorer of the Seas came into Dockyard on Monday from Cape Liberty, as did the Norwegian Dawn, which made the first of her 22 scheduled trips of 2012.

Both cruise ships will be back in the West End again before the end of the week, with the Explorer of the Seas arriving on Saturday and the Norwegian Dawn getting in on Sunday.

The Dawn’s crew, as part of their support for Earth Day, helped do a cleanup of Dockyard and the surrounding area.

The Veendam arrived in Hamilton yesterday afternoon, slightly delayed by the bad weather, for the first of her 19 planned trips from New York.

She will be in the capital for the duration of three-day stay.

Her owners, Holland America, announced last year that the Veendam would not be coming back to Bermuda in 2013.

While today Carnival Pride will sail into Dockyard for her first and only Bermuda trip of the year.

She is the only Carnival Cruise Line ship heading into the island this year after the company significantly reduced its Bermuda presence for 2012.

Lastly, on the cruise front, Enchantment of the Seas, will arrive in Dockyard on Sunday and join the Norwegian Dawn.

As well as cruise ships, all three of the usual container ships are also in town this week.

The Somers Isles arrives today and will be joined by the Bermuda Islander tomorrow.

While the Oleander is expected to arrive in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.

Finally this week the commercial fishing vessel Northern Alliance is expected to come into Dockyard for re-fueling tomorrow and leave later the same day.

And the UBC Muriel is back in Penno’s Wharf again on Friday to deliver more limestone and sand for the hospital project. She is scheduled to leave the island again on Sunday.
