Cup Match teams announced: St. George's lands Minors

The much-coveted Landro Minors ended up at St. George's after all. The St. David's player had been linked to Somerset's Cup Match team with much bragging in the west end that the desired colt had been training with them.

But yesterday Minors showed up for St. George's trials and was selected to help them defend the Cup.

Captain Lionel Cann believes he has a side that will successfully defend the Cup. Oronde Bascome will be the vice-captain. Bascome will basically replace young Tre Govia in the side.

St. George's also recalled Chris Foggo to keep wicket and dropped Jason Anderson. Fiqre Crockwell, who made his debut as a colt last year, will serve as the emergency keeper.

Also recalled were Rodney Trott and Stefan Kelly who will replace Greg Foggo and Ryan Steede.

Minors spot on the squad last year was occupied by St. George's legend Clay Smith, so he'll have some big shoes to fill.

Justin Pitcher will also be on his maiden Cup Match voyage as Arthur Pitcher is no longer playing cricket.

Returning from last year's Cup defenders are Glenn Blakeney, Charlie Marshall and Delyone Borden.

The big surprise in Somerset's team - other than the hyped Minors staying in the east - is that last year's vice captain Hasan Durham was dropped. Durham also captained one of the two trial teams. Janeiro Tucker will serve as Jacobi Robinson's lieutenant.

The dropping of Durham allowed Somerset to recall Dwayne Leverock as the club seemed determined to get colt Deunte Darrell into the match.

Jekon Edness was recalled to wicketkeeping duty, replacing Ricardo Brangman.

Stephen Outerbridge was recalled and Joshua Gilbert will be blooded for the red and blue.

Returning from last year are Dion Stovell, Chris Douglas, Malachi Jones and Jordan DeSilva.

Also dropped from last year's squad are Azeem Pitcher and Sammy Robinson.
