WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15: Sand and cement are the order of the week as supplies for the island’s construction projects are shipped into Bermuda.
Yesterday the bulk carrier, Diego, arrived in Dockyard to siphon off cement powder into the silos.
While the UBV Moin was scheduled to arrive in St George’s yesterday afternoon to unload 7,200 metric tonnes of limestone sand for contractors working on the hospital project.
The Antigua-flagged vessel is fitted with two onboard cranes and originates in the Bahamas.
The ship is likely to be alongside at Penno’s Wharf for the next few days before she heads off north to Canada later in the week for her next sand drop off.
Today the usual duo of the Norwegian Star and Celebrity Summit arrive in the West End for two days.
They will be followed into Dockyard on Saturday by the Explorer of the Seas.
While the Norwegian Dawn and Enchantment of the Seas get in on Sunday.
Finally the Bermuda Islander rolls into Hamilton tomorrow and the Oleander arrives on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier this week Chris Fertig’s record breaking 37-foot powerboat was shipped back to the US on board the Oleander.
Mr Fertig clocked the fastest New York to Bermuda time the weekend before late and broke the 2002 record of 22 hours and 23 minutes by 44 minutes.
