The Girl’s Talk conference, aimed at girls aged between 10 and 14, will feature guest speakers on subjects such as Breaking the Cycle of Unhealthy Relationships and Discovering your Hidden Talents. A panel of experts will discuss the theme.
There will also be a three-course meal and dance competition.
The event takes place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Princess Room on April 4 from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
Girl’s Talk is the second such event organized by Andresa Julien-Osborne of the Girl’s Talk Organization.
The organization’s mission is to bring girls of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds together “to reach their full potential of becoming valuable women with healthy, sound minds and bodies”.
It aims to do this through education, outreach programmes and advocacy of self-esteem, to build the mothers, wives and leaders of tomorrow.
Guest speakers Lisa Trott, school counsellor at Whitney Institute, will discuss the topic of breaking unhealthy relationships, while shoe and jewellery designer Perri-Lyn Furbert will present the hidden talents talk.
There will also be dance by teenage girl group the Style Breakers, choreographed Dy-Ann Simmons, and a Pretty Girl Rock dance competition.
Ms Julien-Osborne said: “I started the organization to honour my heroes and women I aspire to be like, such as Dame Lois Browne Evans and Pamela Gordon.
“I think it is important to build upon the legacy they have left behind so that the work they have done is not in vain.”
Those interested in attending can pick up registration forms from the counsellors at their schools.
They can also collect a sponsor sheet from their counsellor if they are unable to afford the event.
The cost of the conference is $60, including a goody bag, Girl’s Talk 2011 t-shirt and lunch. You can register by emailing: [email protected] or visit Girl’s Talk Conference on Facebook.
