CNN's Robin Meade to take part in Pro-Am

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13: CNN news anchor Robin Meade will take part in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf’s Pro-Am on October 22.

The Pro-Am takes place prior to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which takes place on Tuesday, October 23 and Wednesday, October 24 at the Port Royal Golf Course.

The news anchors hosts Morning Express with Robin Meade on CNN’s Headline News channel (Bermuda CableVision, channel 19).

She is also a budding country singer who had her debut CD last year with Brand New Day. 

Suzy Whaley, two-time Connecticut PGA Teacher of the Year and District 1 director of the PGA Board of Directors, introduced Meade to the game through the PGA of America's Get Golf Ready programme, an initiative that introduces beginners and returning players to golf in a relaxed, affordable and fun environment.

Meade will share her golf experience with viewers during the week of October 15 on her show, which airs live Monday through Friday 5am to 11am Bermuda Time on the HLN Network.

Meade's daily segments also will appear on PGA.com. Whaley took Meade from the golf shop to the tee with lessons and tips including: proper and fashionable attire, equipment, the physical mechanics of hitting a golf ball, etiquette and some of the myths about women playing golf.

Meade said in a press release: "I can't believe it took me so long to even try golf. I used to mutter under my breath if my husband had a charity tournament to play.

“Now, I'm looking to see what I can play in next. I'm definitely not the future Annika, but I'm loving the game, the social connection, and the challenge."

Allen Wronowski, president of the PGA of America, said: "Robin's enthusiasm for the game is infectious and I know that PGA Professionals and all who care about golf are excited to share in her passion for the game.

"Through Get Golf Ready, people such as Robin are discovering the joy of learning the game, and wanting to get on the course to play it even more."

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf will feature a field of three of this year's major championship winners: Bubba Watson (2012 Masters), Webb Simpson (2012 U.S. Open) and Ernie Els (2012 Open Championship), as well as Keegan Bradley (2011 PGA Championship).

This is the sixth year the PGA Grand Slam of Golf has been played in Bermuda and the fourth year at the Port Royal Golf Course.
