FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21: Most of masses that descended on Port Royal for the Grand Slam made their way home after Keegan Bradley had donned the pink jacket.
But for the members and guests left in the clubhouse there was to be one more memorable moment to enjoy. The Claret Jug has never been far from Darren Clarke’s reach during his stay on the island and has been on display at a succession of private functions.
So on Wednesday evening members and guests were given the chance to get their picture taken with the great man as well as the Claret jug.
Andrew Brooks, director of golf at Port Royal, told the Bermuda Sun: “We have been very lucky to have the Claret Jug here for the Grand Slam.
Chance
“Charl Schwartzel also brought his green jacket which is the first time the Masters champion has been able to bring the green jacket in too.
“The Claret Jug has been on show at the evening functions and on Wednesday evening a few members of the public in the clubhouse got the chance to have their picture taken with it. It was a nice moment.”
Mr Brooks hailed this year’s Grand Slam as the best tournament the course had hosted.
He told the Bermuda Sun: “It’s clearly been the best Grand Slam that has been at Port Royal.
Electric
“The amount of people we had out there was fantastic and the atmosphere was electric.
“The big thing this year was that we had four players who were all trying hard to win it and that added to the buzz.
“A lot of hard work has been put in by everyone at Port Royal for the last three or four weeks to prepare the club for the arrival of the PGA people so they can do what they do best.
“It’s been a great team effort and it feels like everything came together nicely.”
