WEDNESDAY, JAN. 23: Jeffrey & Son has taken advantage of the lower rents in Hamilton to make a move that is a winner across the board.

The company, which makes custom ordered blinds and other window treatments, will have its public grand opening at its new location on Saturday, January 26 from 10am to 3pm.

The new location is just off St John’s Circle on Cemetery Road and Saturday’s festivities include face painting, popcorn and prizes.

The move comes after nearly 50 years in their former location in Shelly Bay.

Jonathan Gaugain, one of the partners, told the Bermuda Sun: “The rents are down in Hamilton. This allowed us to get a better space with a more visible shop front.

“The building we were in was a lot more space than we needed. We’re probably in half the space we used to be but it’s more efficient.”

He said the location would benefit the shop.

“It’s more convenient in town for our customers but it’s a better move for us as well as we’re closer to the docks. This allows us to get our freight easier and we’re closer to our suppliers like Gorham’s so it made a lot of sense for us to move here.”

Designed by Jeremy Johnson of Horizons Architecture and Mr Gaugain of JAG Construction, the new showroom features examples of the window treatments available, a sample wall of the vertical blinds they offer and a display table to view the various window treatments that can be custom ordered. J&S offers consultations on their window treatment options in an effort to help customers to choose the right blind for their space.

Mr Gaugain said: “We’re one of the few companies that makes things on island. We bring in the components and we make it to size.”

Customers can come in, relax and lounge and view the display monitors or watch educational DVDs on the manufacturing process and blind options. The products made in house are on display along with all of the colour options as well as examples of custom-ordered blinds, arches, storm protection and awnings.

As the only local manufacturer of custom vertical blinds, roll shades and sunscreens, Jeffrey & Sons is the one stop shop for both residential and commercial needs. They sell all varieties of interior and exterior window treatments and service blinds; they also sell parts and troubleshoot every assortment of blind. They can custom order a wide variety of shades from numerous overseas retailers as well as supply and install all types of storm shutters and awnings. Brand names include Levelor and Vertilux, Graber, Hunter Douglas and the Shade Store for shades; Metal Tech for storm shutters and storm panels; and Sunesta for awnings and exterior sunshades.

Along with installation, Jeffrey & Sons also repairs all brands of storm shutters; repairs and restrings Venetian blinds, faux and real wood blinds; and repairs broken or damaged vertical tracks. They also specialize in motorized shades for boardrooms and residential uses, and they offer an ultrasonic blind cleaning service for Venetian blinds.
