Dallas versus Miami

Regardless of whether you are rooting for the Dallas Mavericks or Miami Heat in the NBA finals, you can be a winner with American Airlines AA Shootout game on Facebook.

The page is giving away 100 discount codes for 50 per cent off of travel to or from Miami or Dallas within the continental United States. That may not bag you a cheap fare from Bermuda to Miami, but if you are booking a multi leg ticket, 50 per cent off of a flight from Miami out to the west coast and back would be a good deal.

There are also over 9,000 second prizes.

To get in the draw you have to shoot a basketball at a goal for either Miami or Dallas (Dallas is currently winning).

The only other caveat, if you win the discount code, is you have to book your ticket within 48 hours of being notified. Travel is only good from September 6, 2011 to November 14, 2011.

JetBlue guarantee

Most airlines promise they have the lowest fares on their website, and JetBlue is no exception (www.jetblue.com). They are also backing it up in that if you find a lower fare anywhere else on the day you purchase a ticket on their site, they’ll give you $100 credit good for future travel.

I don’t think they will have to pay out too often as more than likely they will have the lowest fare, and if they don’t, most travellers are not looking at other websites after they purchase their ticket to see whether or not they got a good deal — they would have done so beforehand.

Anyway, here is how their deal works:

• In order to receive credit for a lower JetBlue fare found, you must:

• Purchase a fare online at jetblue.com.

• Find a lower JetBlue fare (including taxes and fees) on another website for the exact same flight(s), itinerary, date(s), number of travellers and seat type.

• Call Customer Support at 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583) by 11:59pm ET on the same day of purchase.

• Provide the confirmation number of your jetblue.com purchase, the lower fare and the exact URL where you found it.

• Customer Support must be able to locate the lower JetBlue fare during your phone call.

• Once the lower JetBlue fare is verified, a $100 credit will be issued within 24 hours. Credits are nontransferable, valid for one year from date of issuance, and good for future travel only.

They cannot be applied toward the current flight purchase.
