Can Somerset finally win a cricket trophy?

Somerset will be looking to end a cricket trophy drought on Saturday night at the National Centre.

Just how long has it been for the club to claim a piece of silverware?

So long that in light-hearted press conference banter, St. David's captain Lionel Cann was giving instructions to Somerset's Jacobi Robinson as to where to stand for photos.

"I know you guys aren't used to this," Cann laughed.

In all actuality, Robinson said it's been 20 years since the club had something to polish in their trophy case from cricket - other than the Cup Match trophy.

Robinson, who was his club's MVP in the semi-final match versus Leg Trappers, said: "It's going to be a great contest. We're just as good as St. David's."

He added that one of the advantages that Somerset has in this form of the game is that they have hosted their own 20-20 tournaments in the past and that they can play under the lights at the club.

Saturday's final will be at 8pm on the Northern Fields.

Robinson said his club was filled with quality players like Jordan DeSilva, Azeem Pitcher and Jermaine Warner who should give St. David's all it could handle.

The never shy Cann said he was looking to add another piece of silverware to the east end.

"Any club would look forward to winning trophies. Top honours are what we look forward to play for.

"We look forward to it being a good match."

He figures the winning team will need to get 180 to 190 runs in their 20 overs to claim the first prize of the year.

When asked if he had been out of form, Cann said he has had an unbeaten 20 and 40, but "I haven't reached my peak."

He added though, it's a team game. "Whatever I get is a bonus. It's not about me making a 100."

St. David's Delyone Borden won the MVP award for the semi-final match against Police.

BCB vice-president Allen Richardson said a conflict couldn't be avoided between the T20 final and the Bermuda Hogges, who will be playing next door at the National Centre's stadium.

He urged those fans who chose football over cricket that after the Hogge's game "to come down and see a real sport."[[In-content Ad]]
