Ambassadors of Song
Until April 24 — Masterworks is holding a special exhibit “Ambassadors of Song” – a tribute to Bermuda’s entertainers from the 40s to the 60s. The show runs until April 24 in the West Gallery.
Art shows
Bacardi Limited Biennial 2006 Exhibition of Contemporary Bermuda Art in Association with Island Construction Ltd.
April 20 — 83 works by 50 local artists were chosen by the distinguished international jurors for the 2006 Biennial. The jurors are Dr. Annette Blaugrund, Director, National Academy Museum and School of Fine Art, New York; and Professor Moe Brooker, former professor at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Presently he is Department Head of Basic Studies at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia where he also teaches painting. The exhibition opens to BNG members on April 20 and to the public on April 21.
Charles Zuill,
Recent works
Until April 20 — Recent Works by Charles Zuill are on display at Masterworks as part of the Artist in the Gardens series. The opening reception takes place on April 7 from 5:30–7pm and runs until April 20 in the Rose Garden Gallery.

Exhibition
Until April 26 — Opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts is the Bermuda College Art Students Exhibition in the Onions Gallery. In the Edinburgh Gallery is a show by Carmel Byrne. The opening takes place from 5:30-7pm on April 7 and the shows run until April 26. Third Floor, City Hall. 292-3824.

Until April 28 — Open at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is A Sense of Place. The show runs until April 28. The BACD is open Monday to Sunday 10am-5pm. Call 234-2809.

Live Music at
Mediterraneo Bistro
April 14 & 15 — There will be live music at Mediterraneo Bistro, on the corner of Church & Parliament Streets, in Hamilton. Downbeat is at 10pm with music until 1am. Appearing tonight will be Wayne Davis on piano, Stan Gilbert on bass, Howard Rego on drums and surprise guest artists, playing jazz, funk and R & B music, with tapas served until 1 am. Reggae Consciousness
April 15 — Solar Entertainment in Association With Palm Rock Entertainment presents Reggae Consciousness on Easter Saturday featuring Gyptian and Nanko live from Jamaica & Local Guest Artists Bigga Dread, Shorto Ranks and Twanee Butterfield. It all takes place Gombeys Clearwater, under the Big Tent. Tickets are $40 and are available at Dub City and 27th Century or $50 at the gate.
Ensemble Singers Concert
April 22 — The Ensemble Singers presents a programme of classical leiders and Traditional Spirituals with Canadian soprano, Measha Brueggergosman at 8pm in the Wesley Methodist Church, Hamilton. Tickets are $40 and available at The Music Box, The Methodist Church Office and members of the group.
Organ Recital
April 23 — American Guild of Organists Bermuda Chapter presents an organ recital at 7.30pm at St. Paul’s Church in Paget played by Dr. Douglas Major, former organist National Cathedral, Washington D.C. Tickets are $30, $15 for students and are available at the Music Box or www.organconcert.us.

Saturday School For Additional Learning
April 15 & 22 — Saturday School For Additional Learning invites Parents/Guardians with children 5-13-years-old to enrol them in the new African-centred Saturday morning classes which will commence the last Saturday in April. Registration fee is $5. Registration time is 9am-12pm. Register at the Devonshire Recreation Club Auditorium, Frog Lane, Devonshire. Activities will include basic skills such as maths and English, and lessons on Bermudian and African History, Photography for Academic Excellence, African Dance, Mask & Jewellery Making, Original African Plays, Swahili — an East African Language, and Cultural Excursions. Annual Good Friday Kite Festival
April 14 — Visit this free family event at Horseshoe Bay, Southampton from 10am-4pm. Activities include a kite competition, local entertainment, games, face painting, bouncy castle for the children, tug 'o' war and much more.
Bermuda Annual
Exhibition 2006
April 20–22 — This annual event will showcase the best Bermuda has to offer both agriculturally and culturally. Categories include livestock, vegetables, fruits, floriculture, homemade food products, wood crafts and educational and hobby categories as well as, cow milking, equestrian events, poultry judging and musical displays. The exhibition takes place each day from 8am-6pm at the Botanical Gardens, Paget. Admission is $7 for adults, Children under 16 and Seniors $3, children under five-years-old free. Annual Peppercorn Ceremony
April 26 — Join the pomp and ceremony of the Annual Peppercorn Ceremony in the St. George’s Town Square. The Governor of Bermuda, the Premier, the Mayor of St. George and other dignitaries will be in attendance. The event begins at 11am and spectators should be in place by 10:30am.

Bermuda National Gallery Lunchtime Lecture Presentation
April 19 — The Bermuda National Gallery will host a preview walk-through of the Bacardi Limited Biennial 2006 Exhibition of Contemporary Bermuda Art in Association with Island Construction Ltd. The walk-through takes place from 12:30–1:30pm. Admission is $5, members go free.
Bermuda National Gallery Bermuda Film Night
May 9 — The BNG will present Rare Bird, Winner of Best Documentary in the Bermuda International Film Festival, ‘The true story of a boy who helped find an extinct bird’ the story of David Wingate and the cahow. Lucinda Spurling, Director. There will be a 5:30pm reception for 6pm lecture, which takes place at the Bermuda National Gallery in City Hall. Tickets are $15 for non-members, members, $10.

May 18 — PartnerRe and the BNG present The Body in Art a lecture by Ori Z. Soltes, Goldman Professorial Lecturer in Fine Arts and Theology at Georgetown University.
How have artists in different times and places approached the representation of the human body? Why is the approach not universally the same? What related and diverse goals do artists have in depicting the human body and its cognates in animal, plant and architectural depiction and how does this relate to what art is all about? There will be a 5:30pm reception for 6pm lecture, which takes place at the Bermuda National Gallery in City Hall. Tickets are $15 for non-members, members, $5.

April 16 — The Walking Club will walk from Spanish Point Park, Pembroke. Participants should meet at the parking lot at 7am. The walks are free and all are welcome. The Beauty Queen of Leenane
May 15-20 — The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society presents The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh. The play is set in a country cottage in Leenane, a small town in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland, The Beauty Queen of Leenane is a black comedy portraying ancient, manipulative Mag and her virginal daughter, Maureen, whose mutual loathing may be more durable than any love.
