BYGT finalists to be announced during fundraising telethon
THURSDAY, MAY 17: Bermuda will have the opportunity to pick the winner of Bermuda’s Youth Got Talent starting on Monday.
The top twenty contestants will be announced during a three-hour telethon that will serve as a fundraiser for the Coalition for the Protection of Children.
It will air on ZBM TV 9 starting at 8pm and voters will have until midnight on May 24 to vote for their favourite contestants.
The top 20 will be in the Heritage Day parade.
You can vote as many times as you want and make a donation to the charity at the same time.
Organiser Kelly Hunt said: “The public will get to vote for their favourite performances or act.
“The contestants themselves don’t know who’s going to be in the top 20.
“Voting will be available via phone call, text or online.”
She continued: “During the telethon, we’re going to be highlighting three of our major initiatives that the Coalition does as we’re ultimately looking for awareness and fundraising through this event.
“Awareness for what we do and to show the clients the resources that are available.
“We have been servicing Bermuda for the past 20 years now and it’s fitting that it’s the top 20 as it’s the 20th anniversary of the inception.”
The auditions of the top twenty acts will also be shown.
Speaking on the fundraising aspect, Mrs Hunt said: “It’s becoming increasingly difficult in the nonprofit world to raise money.
“We wanted to do an event that would not only achieve that but to also become an initiative in and of itself.
“One of the things that the Coalition is committed to is to encourage our young people to be involved in extra-curricular activities.”
She continued: “Initially we had more than 160 kids sign up and after a series of two rounds of auditions in front of the most well-known personalities, it was a difficult process.
‘It’s a diverse group, not only in age and talent but also demographic.
“We’re extremely excited to present them to the public.”
Mrs Hunt said she hopes through this event, the public will encourage young people and in turn, hear more positive stories.
Voters can vote as many times they want by calling the numbers that will be announced on Monday, texting BYGT1 or online at www.bygt.bm.
Texts are available through both CellOne and Digicel and cost $2.99 per text.
Those who vote online and via telephone can make a donation each time they vote.
