FRIDAY, MAR. 16:
The Last/First Kiss **
Director: Andrea Ashton
Stars: Tracey Heggins and Carlton Byrd
Country: US/Bermuda, 2011
Rating: Unrated
Running time: 16 mins
Genre: Short/comedy/drama
If you are due to marry your first love how do you know if he’s really the one?
Stella is just 18 hours, 37 minutes and 22 seconds from her wedding. Doubts are creeping in.
She is so preoccupied she fails to notice a rollerblader and the two strangers bump into each other, knocking her to the ground.
Friendship
What ensues is an unlikely and temporary friendship as they strike up a conversation about the nature of love and heartbreak. Heggins and Byrd make attractive leads and New York City’s Central Park makes a beautiful backdrop.
It’s just a shame this short — written and co-produced by Bermudian Andrew Stoneham — wasn’t filmed in Bermuda.
Co-funded by Government’s Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, it would have made a great advert for tourism to the island. Instead it just makes you want to visit New York’s Central Park.
But Bermudian writer and filmmaker Stoneham though is one to watch. His previous short Coffee & Pie also featured at last year’s BIFF.
