FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14: The Bermuda Golf Association (BGA) is pleased to announce the Bermuda Amateur Four Ball Championship, which will be played at the Port Royal Golf Course from Friday, November 11 to Sunday, November 13. The event is sponsored by HSBC.

“We are happy to be holding the Bermuda Amateur Four Ball Championship again this year, which first began back in 1953,” said BGA President, Nick Mansell.

“As the event will be held directly after the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, participants will benefit from the course being in top notch condition.”

With both men’s and women’s divisions, the format this year is a 54-hole better ball stroke play event for teams of two played at 80 per cent of current course handicap.

“The championship is open to qualified members of the Bermuda Golf Association and visitors to Bermuda.

“We shortened the event to three days and 54 holes and arranged it on a public holiday with the aim of attracting even more players,” Mr Mansell said.

“In addition, this is a unique event in that golfers will be playing in teams of two. This is the perfect competition for those golfers who like to strategize and play off their partner’s strengths.”

The rules of play will be governed by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and local rules, which are noted in the conditions of play available online at http://www.bermudagolf.org.

All competitors must conform in all respects to the Rules of Amateur Status. Trophies will be awarded to the winner of each division. There will be an optional practice round from 7am to 5pm on Thursday, November 10 as well as registration from noon to 4pm.

The first round of the tournament for men’s and women’s divisions will begin at 8am on Friday, November 11.

The prize presentation and refreshments will follow completion of the championship on Sunday, November 13.

The entry deadline is November 4. Entrance fees are $600 per team (carts included) or $150 each for Port Royal members.
