Bermuda's missing fathers causing imbalance in families

FRIDAY, MAY 25: I think you missed it.

One day, women learned that they did not “need” a man, and that they could do it all by themselves.

You missed it. You missed it.

For you had no idea that seeping that thought and mindset into the society would lead to a time and a place where men would feel devalued and not needed.

Many males feel they have been “thrown away” because women are at a different place as they can now work, bring home the bacon, fry it, serve it, and do the dishes after all of it.

While the liberalization of women can be a great and wonderful thing, it can also be something that sets up a dynamic of imbalance in a society. That is, because women can make it on their own, there seems to be less of a need, or simply, no need for a man.

When is this really dangerous?

Well, it is actually dangerous all of the time, because God created a man and woman to complement and work alongside each other.

God’s intention was, and is, family — a family unit consisting of a mother, father, and children.

Back in the day, the woman stayed home and the man went out to work.

Now, the world has turned upside down and inside out, as many women work while the men stay at home.

Now, let me be clear, the males I am speaking about really have no desire to work at a job or at home, but they still want to be taken care of. Since they are really boys in a man’s body, the women have no choice but to do it all. That is imbalance.

The danger of it all is that many children are born into relationships where the father is not the head of the household, taking the leadership role of inspection, correction, and protection.

The female is on her own trying to do it all, and while there is an example of a woman working, cleaning, cooking, and so on, there is no balance of an example of a man doing his job.

That is why the children are left at a deficit; there is no father role model for the child.

Yes, I know that many believe that they can be mommy and daddy, but that is actually impossible.

You may be super-mommy, but you will never be able to supply what a daddy, a male, should bring to the table. Hence, there is now a second generation of children who may have a daddy, but their father is nowhere in sight.

Bermuda has a generation of children without fathers. Therefore they are missing the legacy and strength of their history — their father’s story.

Who is their father? Who are his people? What has happened in the father’s family that could be silently shaping that child’s life, but they do not have a clue because they do not know their father’s people?

28:1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, like David his father:

5 Wherefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

In the text, King David set a wonderful example of godly living before his son, Ahaz.

The unfortunate thing is that Ahaz chose to go the opposite way, when he became King. Ahaz displeased God. Yes, King Ahaz inherited the throne of David when the throne was in good stead.

Things were well in Israel, and David was the favoured and beloved King. Yet, that did not guarantee success for David’s son, Ahaz.

Like all children, when they come of age, they will make a choice.

They will look back at history and either learn from it or repeat the lessons because they refused to learn the lesson of their history.

Indeed, you cannot go back in history, yet you must know your history so that you do not become victimized by the same historical mistakes made by your forefathers.

Cicero said: “To remain ignorant of things that happened before you were born is to remain a child.”        

George Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

King Ahaz made wrong choices and the entire nation of Israel suffered because of it.

As the leader of the state goes, so goes the state.

The real fathers of nations must stand up and make decisions that would be pleasing in God’s sight.

To do otherwise is to be completely unwise.

Oh, you may not feel the consequences of godless decisions today, but understand that they will unfold in generations to come. Respice finem.
