The local travel and entertainment website is hosting a screening of Jumping the Broom one week from tomorrow at Neptune Theatre.
Tickets will be sold at a discounted price online through bermuda.com/movies exclusively. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 2 at noon. The discount will be revealed at that time. The movie will show at 7pm on opening night.
"We're always looking for ways to make a splash and do something no one else is doing," said bermuda.com general manager Glenn Jones.
"Once we discovered so many of our users were looking forward to this flick we decided to do something big for opening night. We see it as a way to reward our website visitors for being so loyal to us."
Last fall bermuda.com launched a movies page in its Onions section, where web users can easily find what films are playing in Bermuda. They can also get theatre locations, show times, reviews and purchase movie tickets.
P-Tech is teaming up with bermuda.com to put on the event. Moviegoers who get their hands on opening night tickets are invited to Neptune Theatre 30 minutes before show time to enjoy a live DJ, free popcorn and cool giveaways.
"It's going to be a celebration atmosphere, just like a wedding," Mr. Jones said.
“Jumping the Broom” focuses on an African-American couple's wedding and the comedy that ensues when the bride and groom's families are brought together for the celebration on Martha’s Vineyard. The movie title is based on the African tradition of the bride and groom jumping over a ceremonial broom.
The film stars Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Paula Patton, T. D. Jakes, Laz Alonso and Mike Epps. It opens Mother's Day weekend.
