The Old Town plays host to three grand old voyagers of the seas this week.

The Amadea and The World arrive at St. George’s on Friday, while the Silver Whisper docks at Ordnance Island on Saturday.

This is the only chance you will get to see these cruise liners this year as these are their only trips to Bermuda in 2010.

Schedule

The World is by far the best travelled – she started the year in Sydney and has taken in ports in America, Great Britain, Spain, Dubai and Singapore in the past 10 months.

She has stopped at more than 100 ports on her extraordinary schedule before coming to Bermuda.

The World has been dubbed a “residential community” — the residents live on board the ship as it circumnavigates the globe.

Some are there full-time but others visit their floating home periodically during the year.

The World’s happy travellers are due to arrive at Hamilton on Friday before heading to St. George’s on Sunday.

The vessel leaves Bermuda on Monday bound for Baltimore.

Before the end of the year, The World will have taken in Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.

The Amadea is only in town for a day.

She is scheduled to arrive at St. George’s on Friday morning and leaves for Horta in the Azores on the same afternoon.

The Silver Whisper is due at St. George’s Harbour at 1pm on Saturday but leaves the following afternoon bound for San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Cars

Elsewhere in the shipping world this week, more familiar faces continue their weekly rota.

The Somers Isles is due to arrive in Hamilton today, while the Bermuda Islander is scheduled to come here first thing tomorrow morning.

On Friday, the bulky shape of the CSCC Asia car carrier is expected to arrive in Hamilton to deliver a consignment of 59 cars all the way from Japan.
