FRIDAY, AUGUST 17:
Boston
Delta is running a seat sale to Latin America and the Caribbean and Bermuda was on the list from Boston. Seeing that the fares started at $179 from Boston to Bermuda, I checked to see if the price was good going the other direction first.
Bingo! Bermuda to Boston round trip was $321.70 — a great price for a Tuesday-to-Tuesday trip at the end of this month into September.
If you’re thinking of going to Beantown, now is a good time to book for cheap tickets.
Paying for seats
With more airlines charging for selecting your seat, it has had the unintended consequence of splitting up families on the flight who refuse to pay for or can’t afford to pay for seat assignments.
One can quickly see this is a lose-lose situation all the way around. Parents don’t want their child sitting unaccompanied next to some stranger and you can bet the stranger doesn’t want an unsupervised child sitting next to them.
Many people will be happy to switch seats so you can sit together, unless you’re talking about making two or three switches, then it becomes complicated.
One thing you can do to avoid it (besides paying out extra dollars for picking your seat) is to check-in 24 hours prior to your departure.
This is a case of supply and demand, and if the airlines haven’t sold those premium seats you should be able to make a switch and be able to sit together.
Barring that, when you check-in you can ask the agent about moving you around, but the key here is getting to the airport early enough as the closer to departure time, more seats get claimed and you’ll have fewer options.
The Boss promotion
Norwegian Cruise Line is running an up to $200 on-board credit per stateroom on two of its ships until Sunday, August 19 in celebration of the heavy re-airing of the Undercover Boss episode featuring the company’s CEO Kevin Sheehan.
The show will once again air on Saturday, August 18 at 9pm and midnight on The Learning Channel (TLC).
The stateroom credit is only good on the Norwegian Epic or Pride of America, the two ships featured in the episode.
In addition, Mr Sheehan will take questions via Twitter during the dates of the promotion.
From today through August 19, tweet questions or comments to @CruiseNorwegian using the hashtag #TheBossisBack and look for responses from him.
Oasis ice shows
Amy Fickert, cruise director on Oasis of the Seas, told me that the ice skating shows will soon be opening up their rehearsals so guests can watch the performers train. That happens now for the aquatheatre show Oasis of Dreams, mainly because there is no way to block the guests from seeing the rehearsals.
This ‘behind the scenes look’ has proved popular and is part of the impetus of opening the ice studio for its rehearsals.
