Bermuda squad looked good despite defeat

It was disappointing not to make the final of the tri-series but I think the performance against the West Indies shows that strides that have been made.

Since coming back to the squad I've seen major improvements.

The work ethic is good, the players believe in themselves, they are executing plans and they want to do well and fight through the hard times.

They don't just fold when the going get's tough. These are young guys with guts and they are up for the challenge.

The West Indies game was an excellent effort from the boys. They put us into bat in difficult conditions but the boys battled hard and if we'd been able to work the singles a bit better we could have had a competitive score.

To bat out the 50 overs against an attack like that was an achievement.

And for Chris Douglas to get two fifties in his first two ODIs was amazing.

That's a great achievement - especially when you consider the quality of the West Indies attack.

Guys like Jerome Taylor and Darren Powell, who opened, are seriously fast.

So that's a great achievement for Chris. He's in excellent form and he's a great addition to the top order.

He plays with a lot of confidence and maturity, nothing bothers him.

Delyone Borden is another youngster who it's great to have in the squad. He took three wickets over the two games and 2 for 38 against the West Indies.

We've got some excellent spinners right now and with the fast bowlers performing well too things are looking alright in that department.

Obviously we were a little disappointed with the result against Canada and that we are not going to be playing in the final.

There was some really good cricket played by both teams but we let them get too many runs. It took us a while to get into our stride and they got a good start, then we pegged them back, but we let them get away from us again in the end.

Even then we got close. We needed 78 runs from the last ten overs and I thought we should have got them.

I got out at a bad time, Irving went shortly after and we fell 25 runs short.

I feel there's a lot more depth to the squad now and we come back to Bermuda for the four-day game against Namibia with a little bit more confidence.

There's a lot of positives we can take from this. We showed, at times, how good we can be. Now we need to find some more consistency.[[In-content Ad]]
