Bermuda loses place in record books
That distinction now belongs to Sri Lanka who lost by three runs in a high scoring thriller at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground in Rajkot, India yesterday.
Led by Virender Sehwag's blistering knock of 146 from 102 deliveries, the Indians piled up a record 414 for seven in their allotted 50 overs, surpassing the previous mark of 413 for five they achieved against Bermuda at the 2007 World Cup in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Thumping century
Sehwag also thumped a century (114 from 87 balls) against Bermuda at the Queen's Park Oval to lay the foundation for India's record 257 run win.
But unlike Bermuda, who were skittled out for 156 after being put to the sword with only three batsmen managing double figures, the Sri Lankans made a fist of it in reply to India's massive total in Rajkot yesterday, coming to within three runs of what seemed an insurmountable target before the overs expired.
Leading the way was 33 year old right handed opening bat Tillakaratne Dilshan who blasted 20 fours and three sixes in a game-high knock of 160 from 124 balls.
Sehwag and his team-mates, though, had the last say as the hosts clung to victory by the skin of their teeth to take a 1-0 lead in the five match ODI series.[[In-content Ad]]
