Bermuda golfer selected as Hurricanes Athlete of the Week

TUESDAY, OCT . 2: Golfers Tariqah Walikraam and Brett Wilson have been selected as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 30.

Walikraam, a professional golf management student from Bermuda takes the female honour as a result of her play over the weekend at the 2012 ACAA Golf Championships hosted by Holland College at The Links at Crowbush Cove.

Walikraam won the ACAA Women’s Golf Individual Championship by shooting rounds of 84 and 85 in rainy conditions at Crowbush. She also led her team to the team championship.

Wilson, a first-year golf club management student from Sussex, NB is the male athlete of the week. Wilson won the 2012 ACAA Golf Men’s Individual Championship (also held at Crowbush) by shooting rounds of 70 and 74 over the weekend in the ACAA Golf to win the individual title by 3-strokes over teammate Eric Locke.

The Hurricanes also won the men’s team title.

Wilson’s impressive two rounds were despite playing the 18th hole at Crowbush a combined 5-over par over the two days.

Walikraam and Wilson will now represent Holland College at the 2012 PING CCAA Golf Championships hosted by Durham College at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club from October 16-19.
