THURSDAY, JULY 19: Today, The Berkeley Institute Board of Governors announced the planned retirement of Principal Michelle Simmons and the commencement of a recruitment drive for a new Principal to assume responsibility for the School upon her retirement in June 2013.

“Mrs. Simmons who has served as Principal of The Berkeley Institute for close to twenty years will retire at the end of the 2012/2013 academic year”, said Craig Bridgewater, Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Bridgewater continued: “Under her leadership the School has undergone a huge transition as it evolved into a comprehensive learning institution and relocated to a new state of the art facility.  Mrs. Simmons set international standards and challenged faculty and students to achieve academic excellence”.

The Principal plays a critical role in achieving the mission and objectives of the School.  The post holder is responsible to the Board of Governors for the academic leadership and day-to-day management of the School.   The Berkeley Institute is an Aided School and the Board of Governors is an autonomous body which has overall strategic and administrative management responsibility inclusive of recruitment for the School’s staff.

As a part of the recruitment process the Board of Governors will consult with parents, students, teachers, the Ministry, and the business community.  “These are our stakeholders” said Mr. Bridgewater, “and our aim with the stakeholder consultation phase of the process is to ensure that we have their input in refining the skills and knowledge criteria required by a new Principal to ensure that we can achieve even greater student success in accordance with international standards in the future.”

It is anticipated that the new Principal will assume leadership of The Berkeley Institute prior to  September 2013.
