Are you up for 100 holes in one day for a good cause?

FRIDAY, JULY 20: I am doing a 100 holes on Monday 23 July, that is playing 5 and a half rounds of golf in one day.

I was thinking this would be a serious challenge in the Bermuda humidity and topography. However, 100 holes is not going to be even close to a record.

In the research that I have done, the record seems to be 612 holes.

For example a par four hole takes these speed golfers just a minute and 30 seconds to complete.

Starting at first light they would expect to finish up the 3rd round by 6:50am, meaning 54 holes were played in just an hour and 20 minutes.

By 11:30am — six hours in — through 252 holes!

We are, by comparison, just going to do 100 holes starting at 6am, hoping to finish by 7pm.

It seems a very easy challenge. I regularly do 18 holes in two hours, and have been known on my own to do 18 in less than an hour.

We have the some local PGA professionals, Bermuda National squad and Family Centre supporters, making around 10 players signed up to join me this year.

I hope we all get round the seemingly easy 100 holes. Some have been suggesting we should go further — maybe 135 holes.

As a junior I would often play 54 holes in one day, walking, but I am a little older now so, let’s see how well we all hold up after 100 holes at Tucker’s Point.

I will let you know next week. It will be interesting to see how many balls I lose and how many birdies are made. My thinking is that I will need more

 than one ball! A hundred holes in one day — unbelievable fun.

My hope is that this will become an annual fundraiser for the Bermuda Golf Association and The Family Centre. My hope is that we will get 30-50 individuals to play 100 holes of golf in one day even though it will be a gruelling task.

It could also be one of the most rewarding days you’ll ever experience.

It all starts with breakfast before sunrise and ends with a fantastic dinner when you are finished.

Not everyone will make all the 100 holes, but most will, and even though the muscles might be aching, the sense of accomplishment will make it all worthwhile.

Not to mention, your efforts will have helped raise much needed money for your favourite charity!

Next year there will also be prizes given to the top pledge-gatherers and to the winners of the many on-course events.

Participants are asked to get pledges. Sponsors can pledge any amount and it can be on a per hole basis or just a flat pledge.
