Alternative health groups join forces
Your holistic health needs can all now be catered for at a new premises on Victoria Street.
Lotus sees Integrated Healing Arts and the Health Co-op joining forces to combine their services under one roof.
Dr. Larry Trott and his wife Dr. Karen Simons own Integrated Healing Arts while Sophia Cannonier and her husband Michael Watson own the Health Co-op. The new building is at 46 Victoria Street.
IHA provides a variety of services including energy balancing, councelling and Qi Gong. It also provides acupuncture, Chinese medicine massage and magnetic cupping. Dr. Trott claims that these processes can help to relieve tension that cause a deficiency of energy as well as helping with such ailments as headaches and back pain.
IHA also provides energy balancing, councelling and spiritual (not religious) psychotherapy. Dr. Simons says that this type of therapy can help people who have become stuck in their lives — it helps them to move from where they are to where they want to go. It also helps them with their spiritual development. The therapy rooms have josticks and candles burning and there are an array of healing crystals paced around the room.
On top of all these services IHA sell a number of health products including a herbal remedy high in Omega 3 called Mila. They claim it has many uses including helping with asthma and lowering cholesterol.
IHA organizes a number of health retreats to foreign countries which have in the past included Machu Picchu, The Amazon and Ghana. While in Ghana, the group lived in a village and learned about the culture.
“These are live transforming trips,” explains Dr. Trott. “We observe cultural practices and see how other cultures do things differently. It opens your mind to different experiences.”
Michael and Sophia ‘s Health Co-op also provide retreats for its clients. They visit The Centre for Massage and Natural Health in North Carolina which is surrounded by mountains and forests. The breaks include yoga, Pilates sessions as well as excursions to the surrounding parks, mountain trails and forests.
Michael also provides yoga and Pilates classes locally each week as well as teacher training classes for those wanting to teach the classes themselves
Ms Cannonier’s focus is on child birth. She books mid wives for births, trains husbands to be dulas and also helps organize water births.
There is a large training room with one wall taken up with a photograph of a gigantic lotus flower. It is here that the various classes such as the yoga and Pilates take place.
