A wish list for Bermuda's golf community in 2011

Santa Claus, St Nick, Chris Cringle, whatever it is that you prefer to call him, will tonight undertake his long journey around the world.

It is a journey of immense proportions and we are all very lucky that he manages to complete it each year.

Frankly, we are fortunate that he uses reindeer power as the cost of petrol would have made the journey prohibitive years ago.

No doubt we all made out our wish lists some time ago and are now nervously hoping that Santa will forgive us our transgressions during the year and will assess us as having been nice rather than naughty.

Pretty good

I’m planning on leaving an extra cookie, and a splash of something special in his milk, just in case he’s sitting on the fence about this when he arrives at my house.

Actually, here in Bermuda, we’ve already been given everything we

could ever really want.

It’s just that we haven’t quite figured out how to put the individual pieces together so as to make them work to our best advantage.

It’s kind of like our golf games — we all know what it takes to hit a great golf shot, and we even manage to hit a few from time to time, but we can’t quite seem to string enough of them together to set the golf world on fire.

Bermuda isn’t perfect but when you add up the individual pieces, you come to a pretty good whole.

Please Santa

My wish list to Santa this year is not so much for more of what is available in the big wide world, but for him to leave us with the desire to use better that which we already have.

The Bermuda Golf Association now has a new board, and a new President, and there is every reason to believe that good things will come from this new board.

The Bermuda Golf Association has a number of initiatives in the works, all of which are worthwhile, but without the support of the community, they have less of a chance of being successful.

So tonight, at the top of my wish list to Santa, is for him to sprinkle some pixie dust in the home of every golfer that will cause them to appreciate the hard work that the Bemruda Golf Association does for golf in Bermuda

Pixie dust

And to encourage them to participate in 2011 in some way, whether it be as a participant in tournaments or as a volunteer to help progress the efforts of the board or as the sponsor of one of the projects that are in the pipeline.

The BGA provides the local golfing community with a calendar of events that is quite good for such a small place and it would be great if Santa’s pixie dust worked.

I’m confident that Santa’s two main elves now administering golf in Bermuda, Nick Mansell and Scott Roy, would welcome your phone call offering your participation.

Merry Christmas everybody and happy golfing in 2011.
