A desperate prayer will get a response from heaven

FRIDAY, JULY 13: Sometimes life can be so very complicated that you really do not know what to do. Life can present you with all sorts of challenges that can tempt you to disengage and have a “don’t care” attitude. Life can sometimes make you want to give up life.

That was where King Hezekiah found himself as he faced the fact that his people were surrounded by the enemy. What were they to do? How could they survive the attack? Soon the people’s resources of water and food would run low.

17  He wrote also letters to rail on the Lord God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

The people of God were being tormented and teased. The King of Assyria was not just going to kill them, but he was going to make the whole process as painful as possible. There would be prolonged pain before death. That is how the enemy steals, kills, and destroys.

When things got bad for King Hezekiah, he did something that must not be missed. King Hezekiah got together with the Prophet Isaiah. That is, the highest natural authority got together with the highest supernatural authority. King Hezekiah was wise enough to know that he needed help and direction from a true man of God. Hezekiah trusted that the Prophet Isaiah heard directly from God, that God would speak clearly concerning the situation, and that God’s words would bring about certain victory.

So, King Hezekiah and the Prophet Isaiah got together and prayed. It was not a ritualistic prayer or a prayer of convenience; it was a passionate prayer of desperation.

Oh, it is when you get desperate enough to pray that you will indeed hear from heaven.

And hear from Heaven they did. God heard the cry of His leaders and God sent them a message. The enemy had been sending out messages of evil intentions and threats. 

However, God sent out one messenger to quench the effect and the impact of the enemy’s messages.

21 And the Lord sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

Oh, there was a cause of concern and there was also a reason to celebrate. Because God sent help, the people of Israel were delivered and the enemy was destroyed. Those who were the most valiant in the enemy’s camp were destroyed.

Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if King Sennacherib repented of his evil and admitted that he had been wrong? Seems so simply.

But no, the King of Assyria continued to worship his false gods and depend upon them for deliverance.

Isn’t it something when you esteem things that are made over a God that you cannot make? Isn’t it sad that many desire to worship a visible image rather than the invisible God?

God is omnipotent and God will see to it that you come through each and every challenge in due season.

Do not fear what the enemy may do; you have God on your side.
